This approach puts forward the exploration, reading, writing and documentation of space, its use and ways of transformation as a subtle base to grasp what architectural thought is about. Invisible grounds tackles a critical and social position within the discipline of Architecture and Urban Design that goes beyond the material and foregrounds an ethical commitment and social perspective in spatial practices.
With the term “invisible” the immaterial and intangible aspects of space are addressed; the tacit dimension, that only comes to forefront when observing the interaction in space. The term “grounds” opens up a broader field, meaning not only a particular piece of territory or soil, but a thematic foundation or background. That, what lies underneath, the reason or cause to act or to act together.
Using “invisible grounds” as an interest and framework, the aim is to initiate a platform for experimental projects and ideas
that go beyond the disciplinary framework of Architecture and open up new perspectives upon spatial matters.
Riccarda Cappeller M.A. M.Sc. is an architect, urban designer, visual researcher, curator and author,
working at the intersection of art and architecture, on the co-creation of urban knowledge
and on non-fiction media about living spaces, methodological experiments, artistic research and urban transformation.
Her practice follows various traces in parallel – writing, filming, curating, teaching and theorizing.
